Fall Rush With the fall season soon coming upon Oklahoma Christian University, many upcoming sophomores and club members anticipate fall rush. Although clubs promote a sense of unity within the campus, some people are worried about this upcoming year. Due to clubs such as Chi Lambda Phi and Theta Theta Theta getting in trouble during previous rush weeks otherwise known as “Greek Week” things are going to change. This means the start of new rules and possibly the desecration of old traditions. Clubs Students get to join clubs such as ΧΛΦ (Chi Lambda Phi), ΘΘΘ (Theta Theta Theta), ΛΧΖ (Lambda Chi Zeta) ΔΓ∑(Delta Gamma Sigma), Κ∑Τ(Kappa Sigma Tau), ∑Χ∑(Sigma Chi Sigma), ΑΓΩ (Alpha Gamma Omega), ΩΨΟ (Omega Psi Omicron), ΓΡ(Gamma Rho), and ΨΕ(Psi Epsilon). Decisions Neal Arter, the Director of Student Life, in the past has always done well handling student matters. Arter highly considers the interests of the students and bases his decisions on what he feels is right. He has yet to steer the student body in the wrong direction. Hopefully this situation will have the same outcome and students will be overly pleased with his overall decisions. The clubs may be anticipating and expecting the worst, but it’s a decision everyone will have to accept with open minds. "Goon"

With fists soaring through the air and grown men hitting the ice, the movie “Goon” is a winner. “Goon” is a simple movie about a man named Doug Glatt. He is an ordinary man looking to find his place in the world. Doug, played by Sean William Scott, is a social outcast due to his lack of brains and awkward demeanor. While Glatt may not be the brightest crayon in the box, he is still a delightful character. Sean William Scott plays a charming role. Unlike other roles, he is actually the nice guy for once. While struggling to become accepted by his parents and society, Glatt discovers his talent for brawling during a hockey game. His obnoxious friend, Ryan (Jay Baruchel) causes a fight with a hockey player. Glatt quickly sticks up for his friend and lands a knockout blow to the over-confident player. Hockey coaches take notice of Glatt’s brawling abilities and quickly take advantage. Though Glatt’s abilities are limited to brawling, he quickly becomes a key role on the team. Ross Rhea (Liev Screiber), a long time scrapper in the league, quickly takes notice to Glatt’s talent. Although Rhea respects Glatt as the new tough guy, he’s still ready to tear his head off once they touch the ice. Ultimately “Goon” is building up to this intense and heart throbbing fight between Doug and Rhea. “Goon” is definitely a fighting movie, but in the end it’s truly about finding a place in the world. “Goon” is incredibly funny and violent. Personally I loved the movie but I would not recommend “Goon” for younger audiences. It is rated R for a good reason.

Ghost Rider Spirit Of Vengeance

“Ghost rider Spirit of Vengeance” is definitely one of the worst movies I have seen this year. While the movie could have been promising due to the comics having such a big fan base, the movie tanked in my opinion.  I do enjoy Nicholas Cage on occasion. “Con Air” and “National Treasure” are fantastic movies. Nicholas Cage was an awesome pick for the job. I believe Nicholas Cage was not a good choice for the role in this film. The action sequences for the most part are brief and boring. When watching a superhero movie I feel I should get excited when the superhero enters the scene.  During “Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance” however, this was not the case.  This movie doesn’t even come close to the other Marvel movies such as “The Amazing Spider-man” or “Iron Man.“ Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor definitely dropped the ball on this Marvel movie. As some bloggers would say, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor are an unpleasant duo. I completely agree in that case. I hate seeing a childhood hero movie that is so awfully done. It’s not like the filmmakers had to come up with original ideas about a storyline. What is so hard about following the original comics? Why change storylines when all the real fans want to see is the comic in action?

The Amazing Spiderman

“The Amazing Spider Man” released July 3, 2012 is a web slinging good time! Andrew Garfield was a fantastic choice for the role of Peter Parker.  He’s a witty and awkward character through out the entire movie. Peter Parker’s interaction with Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone is quirky and romantic.  The two make an awkward and goofy couple that the audience can surly fall in love with. The CGI (Computer Generated Imagery) is well done.  The Lizard was an enjoyable foe for the first movie! Dr. Curt Connors (Rhys Ifans) otherwise known as “The Lizard” looks great in my opinion.  As a Spider-Man fan I was worried that “The Amazing Spider-Man” wouldn’t live up to all the hype.  Lately it seems like a lot of movies are being remade or rereleased just to make money, such as the rerelease of “Titanic” or soon “Finding Nemo” in 3D. Many fans have hopes that “The Amazing Spider-Man” will take the cake compared to the previous franchise. Comic book fans may have enjoyed the first “Spider-Man” movies, but they don’t follow the comics as well as some would like.  One of the big catches for “The Amazing Spider-Man” was that it follows the comic book better than the previous franchise. 

 In the case of “The Amazing Spider-Man” I would say that it’s better than the previous movie franchise and well worth the money.  Although I believe “The Amazing Spider-Man” is a better movie. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter!

With heads soaring through the air and guts falling to the ground, “Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter” Was a smash hit! “Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter” is wonderfully twisted story of President Lincoln’s upbringing. Since Abrahams mother was slayed by the blood sucking demons, His lust for vengeance grows with eagerness and passion! Abraham will stop at nothing to slay these foul beasts. His axe constantly shreds through the faces and limbs of his fanged foes! The vampires in this movie are no joke. Timur Bekmambetov, along with a few other directors, revert vampires back to the time where they’re actually terrifying! These vampires aren’t anything like Edward Cullen from “Twilight!” Unlike the teen phenomenon, the vampires in “Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter” won’t hesitate to tear out throats. “Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter” is a thrill to just sit back and watch. It’s entertaining throughout and gives the Civil War a fun twist. The director Timur Bekmambetov, has a dark and edgy style to his work. Although the movie is quite gory, it’s rather enjoyable. Not only is it filmed well, but choreographed well too! Be warned this movie is rated “R.” It’s intensely violent and has some sexual content including brief nudity. Brave!

Pixar, in my opinion, is one of the best companies producing CGI (Computer Generated Images) films. “Brave,” released June 22, 2012 is definitely another wonderfully made film. It has followed great films by Pixar such as “Toy Story 1,” “Toy Story 2,” and “Toy Story 3.” Pixar also created “Finding Nemo,” “The Incredibles” and “Up.” It’s a great choice for the whole family! The storyline placed in Scotland. It’s a wonderful tale about an overbearing mother (Elenor) and oppressed daughter (Merida) whose love in the end overcomes all. Merida refuses to follow custom to marry a suitor to keep peace through out the land.  Through the conflict of Merida turning her mother into a bear while trying to change her fate, Elenor and Merida find a common ground to stand together. The two, along with some other characters, truly make a wonderful story full of laughs and giggles. The triplets Harris, Hubert, and Hamish, always tend to bring out the child inside us all. Their antics and love for mischief make them one of the highlights of the film. The boys were definitely my favorite part of the entire movie. Although they aren’t the main characters they are in my opinion the best. I highly recommend this movie to anyone ready for a good laugh.
